Successively promoted to Vice Minister of the Court of the Imperial Stud Taipu Shaoqing an official responsible for imperial carriages and horses and Right Commissioner of the Office of Transmission You Tongzheng a high-level post handling imperial communications, while continuing to manage local affairs. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to Grand Coordinator of Fengyang and Supreme Commander of Coastal Defense against the Wokou.
Formerly, this post was held by Dukes, Marquises, or Earls members of the hereditary nobility. In the 30th year of the Hongwu era [1397], the responsibility was transferred to Regional Military Commanders. It has now been abolished.
Vice Commissioner of Maritime Inspection
Under the old system, this post was held by Vice Ministers or Censors-in-Chief. After the 30th year of the Hongwu era, it began to be held by Vice Surveillance Commissioners. Their duties involved governing the seas of Zhejiang, and they were stationed at Ningbo. Recently, due to the many disturbances in the region, various prefectures have established Military Defense Circuits Bingbei administrative divisions focused on military readiness to be managed concurrently with circuit inspections. Coastal troops and provisions, however, continue to be managed by the Maritime Commissioner as before, without being divided.
