The illustration displays a branch characterized by long, slender leaves with prominent central veins, typical of the Podocarpus genus. Several maturing fruits are shown attached to the stems. The inclusion of a thick, gnarled tree trunk on the left side of the frame emphasizes the plant's longevity and its status as a substantial tree rather than a mere shrub.
The dense, lush foliage shown here is why the tree is so highly prized for "potted play" original: "盆玩" (penwan); an early term for the art of Bonsai or Penjing..
