The local inhabitants originally combined their territory with Massachusetts original: "馬沙諸些" (Mǎshāzhūxiē). as a single administrative unit rather than governing themselves independently. In the year 1741 the 6th year of the Qianlong reign, they established themselves as an independent division and changed their name to New Hampshire original: "新幹幾" (Xīngànjǐ) — a phonetic transliteration used in the 19th century..

The shape of the land is slanted and irregular. In terms of area, it is approximately one-fourth the size of Zhejiang Province in China. From north to south, clusters of elegant peaks stand tall, and the mountain paths are rugged and steep. In the north, the highest mountains reach six or seven hundred zhang approximately 6,000 to 7,000 feet; a zhang is roughly 10 feet.. The southern mountains are lower, measuring two or three hundred zhang.
Only the highest peak in the north remains covered in snow throughout all four seasons, shining with a brilliant white light. It is called the White Mountain Referring to Mount Washington and the White Mountains range.. These mountains are so treacherous and the ridges so steep that they are considered the most formidable in the entire country.
