Zhao Yanwei’s Yunlu Manchao Random Notes from Yunlu records that the Xuanhe Painting Academy was divided into six departments: 1. Buddhist and Taoist subjects, 2. figures, 3. mountains and rivers, 4. birds and beasts, 5. bamboo and flowers, 6. buildings and trees. This is mostly the same with minor differences, likely due to a subsequent revision of the items. Cai Tao’s Tiewei Shan Congtan Collected Talks from Iron-Fence Mountain states: "In the early Chongning era, Song Qiaonian was ordered to manage the imperial painting and calligraphy store. After Qiaonian was dismissed, he was succeeded by people like Mi Fu. By the final years, the pieces in the imperial collection totaled in the thousands. I personally saw the list in the Guimao 1123 year of the Xuanhe era."
