Zhan Ziqian served through the Northern Qi, Zhou, and Sui dynasties. By the Sui dynasty, he held the rank of Court Gentleman for Consultation. Although his paintings of pavilions and towers were unrivaled by anyone of his time, such as Dong Dong Yuan and Zhan Zhan Ziqian, he was particularly skilled at capturing the distance and posture of landscapes.
