A vertical title slip, known as a daozhi, is pasted onto a protective cover. The slip is light blue-grey with a dark border. The main title is written in large, calligraphic ink characters. At the bottom, a smaller rectangular section contains additional characters and a number.
original: "妙法蓮華經" (Miao fa lian hua jing). This title refers to the Lotus Sutra, one of the most revered scriptures in Mahayana Buddhism, which teaches that all beings possess the potential for Buddhahood.
