...having lost his sense of self This continues the parable of the "Jewel in the Robe" from the previous page, where a man wanders in poverty, unaware of the treasure hidden in his clothes, effectively "losing his nature" to worldly struggle.. From the Han to the Tang dynasties, a span of over six hundred years, the collective scriptures translated and brought to this land total more than four thousand scrolls.
Among those held and practiced with the greatest fervor, none surpasses this Sutra. Is it not because the spiritual capacity of the seekers and the nature of the teaching are so perfectly attuned? This is indeed the legacy of the Great Universal Wisdom Excellence Buddha original: Zhisheng (Mahabhijnajnanabhibhu); a Buddha mentioned in Chapter 7 who attained enlightenment in the remote past and whose sixteen sons spread the Lotus Sutra throughout the universe.. Upon hearing these words, one is filled with deep reverence, moved by the enduring achievements of the King of Dharma A title for the Buddha, who has mastered the laws of reality.. Thus, I have placed this preface at the head of the Sutra to summarize its contents.
I hope that we may soon purify our six sense faculties original: liugen; the gates of perception—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—which must be "purified" from attachments to perceive the Buddha-nature., look up toward the auspicious assembly of the Compassionate Honored One An epithet for the Buddha or Maitreya, the Future Buddha., and swiftly realize the Four Virtues original: side; the four "transcendental" qualities of Nirvana: Permanence, Bliss, True Self, and Purity.
May we hasten toward the profound path of the Land of Bliss, providing a boundless source of merit that shall never be exhausted, and eternally bequeathing this legacy to those who follow. So I have written.
