to commemorate the faults which the Aldine edition offers, either through the error of the typesetter or through a poorly understood script of the codex, would have been a task clearly vain and useless.
The books do not have an index of characters.
2. naion aroent' original: "ναῖον ἀρόεντ'" M. G. P. Rob. naion aroenta original: "ναῖον ἀρόεντα" E. in the margin, since they had been omitted in the text. naion arthenta original: "νάϊον ἀρθέντα" Turn. I would not warn that naion arthenta original: "νάϊον ἀρθέντα" should be joined, had I not seen certain blunders in a most obvious matter.
3. apo prostomion original: "ἀπὸ προστομίων" M., in which something was erased between the pi and omicron in apo, and Rob. apostomion original: "ἀποστομίων" G. pro stomion original: "πρὸ στομίων" Turn. It can be doubted whether apopro stomion original: "ἀποπρὸ στομίων", which Burges placed, is better. But apopro original: "ἀποπρὸ", used by Euripides, does not exist elsewhere in Aeschylus, and he seems to say prostomia original: "προστόμια" for what he calls prochoma original: "πρόσχωμα" at Prom. 848, where he says that Canopus is situated at the mouth of the Nile and the embankment original: "Νείλου πρὸς αὐτῷ στόματι καὶ προσχώματι".
The books have leptomathon original: "λεπτομαθῶν", except that P. is said to have leptomatos original: "λεπτοματῶς". Victorius introduced leptobathon original: "λεπτοβαθῶν". Pauw corrected it.
4. dian de leipousai original: "δῖαν δὲ λειποῦσαι" the codices. dian de lipousai original: "δῖαν δὲ λιποῦσαι" Turn. dian d' ekleipousai original: "δῖαν δ’ ἐκλείπουσαι" Seidler on Eur. Troad. 176.
5. surian original: "συρίαν" P.
6. demelasia original: "δημηλασίᾳ" the books. Auratus corrected it. Lobeck on Ajax p. 351 explained demelasian gnostheisai original: "Δημηλασίαν γνωσθεῖσαι" as if said instead of katagnostheisai original: "καταγνωσθεῖσαι". I would prefer it to be understood more simply as those for whom no exile has been decreed for murder.
8. autogeneton original: "αὐτογένητον" M. G. P. Rob. autogenneton original: "αὐτογέννητον" E. autogene ton original: "αὐτογενῆ τὸν" introduced by Turnebus. phylaxanoran original: "φυλαξάνοραν" M. G. E. Rob. In M., the letters ylax original: "υλαξ" are by a second hand over an erasure. phylaxanoros original: "φυλαξάνορος" P. according to Faehsi. gr. original: "γρ." phyxanoran original: "φυξάνοραν" margin M. G. gr. original: "γρ." phyxanoros original: "φυξάνορος" P. according to Faehsi. autogenei phyxanoria original: "αὐτογενεῖ φυξανορίᾳ" Bamberger in Diar. antiq. a. 1839. p. 878.
13. achaiōn original: "ἀχαΐων" M., but with an epsilon written above.
epekrage original: "ἐπέκραγε" E.
14. pheugein aneden diakumaleon original: "φεύγειν ἀνέδην διακυμαλέον", with one letter erased after the mu, M. pheugein aneden dia kumbaleon original: "φεύγειν ἀνέδην διὰ κυμβαλέον" G. P. pheugein aneden akubaleon original: "φεύγειν ἀνέδην ακυβαλέον", with space left for the letters di original: "δι", E. pheugein aneden de dia kumaleon original: "φεύγειν ἀνέδην δὲ διὰ κυμαλέον" by his own judgment Rob., for it is said that the codex has kubaleon original: "κυβαλέον". Canterus corrected it. Hesychius' codex has aneden original: "ἀνέδην". "Aeschylus: to flee openly through the salt wave original: "φεύγειν ἀνέδην διὰ κῦμ’ ἅλιον". Or, poured out, by way of the privation of the eo original: "εῶ", which is to settle having been made displaced from the soil." Etym. M. p. 103, 10: "aneden signifies to be displaced from hedos original: "ἕδος", heden original: "ἕδην", and aneden original: "ἀνέδην", that is, without a seat. Aeschylus: to flee openly. Or from heo original: "ἕω" meaning I dismiss, eden original: "ἔδην" and aneden original: "ἀνέδην", that is, to do nothing hesitatingly." The words of Aeschylus are looked back upon, not named, by Zonara p. 225 and by Favorinus.
15. keasai original: "κεασαι" M. keasai original: "κέασαι" E. P. and the codex of Rob. kalase original: "καλασε" G. not kelase original: "κελασε". Sophianus corrected it.
16. hemeteron original: "ἡμέτερον" in M. made from ameteron original: "ἀμέτερον".
oistrodomou original: "οἰστροδόμου" the books. Turnebus corrected it.
