The Attics seem to have spoken inin original: "ἶνιν" with the final syllable long, perhaps also in the nominative, like konis konin, ophis ophin original: "κόνις κόνιν, ὄφις ὄφιν". If that is so, inis original: "ἶνις" and inin original: "ἶνιν" will have to be written. Certainly, I know of no example of shortening, unless Alexandrian Lycophron v. 570: on oid' ho Roious inis eunazon menos original: "ὧν οἶδ’ ὁ Ῥοιοῦς ἶνις εὐνάζων μένος". Lobeck did not pass over the word timaora original: "τιμάορα" in Paralip. p. 216.

44. The scholiast explains these things poorly. According to the name imposed from the contact, says the chorus, the just time was exiting, as was fitting: that is, from the contact by which Io was made pregnant, with the just months having passed, she gave birth to a boy, to whom the name Epaphus was given from that contact.
