Strabo I. 15, p. 23, citing Polybius, remembers men noble for their inventions: "Just as Danaus pointed out the water-wells in Argos, and Atreus the path of the sun opposite to the heavens, and kings were chosen as seers and observers of sacrifice; and the priests of the Egyptians and the Chaldeans and Magi, exceeding others in a certain wisdom, obtained leadership and honor from those before us." Briefly repeating this, Eustathius writes on p. 1645, 56, that not only was Aeolus honored for his wisdom and discovery of useful things, but along with countless others, Danaus was honored for showing the wells in Argos, as the geographer says, and others too. Therefore, the phrase to pansophon the all-wise has been called into question in vain.
