324. kai dustuchounton t' eumarēs apallagē M. G. E. Rob. In M. the later t' (not g') seems to have been added. Commonly, since Turnebus, it has been kai dustuchountōn g' eumarēs apallagē. That would be the words of a king who is confirming the situation. But the chorus is aggrieved because the king seems to decline the duty of bringing aid.

polemon neon new war here and in v. 913 does not mean as if some prior war had been waged, but one undertaken rashly and otherwise than is proper. In the same way v. 986: ei gar ti mē theois bebouleutai neon, and v. 60: neoikton oiton.

The stupidity of those who for so long tolerated the most absurd epithet leukostikton white-spotted was incredible, not thinking about what kind of epithets cannot serve as an ornament.
