It should be noted that rhepomenōn is a middle form. Metalgein properly is to grieve after something or someone, as metastēnomai son algos in Euripides' Medea v. 996. It means about the same thing here as to repent. Schaefer is mistaken in the edition of Porson on the verse of Medea, interpreting it similarly with Elmsley as I lament together with, and metaklaomai in Hecuba v. 214. For it is rather to lament according to someone, which is to do so following another.
