Translation of the column comparison between Procopius and Priscus regarding the actions of Gaiseric.
At that time Gaiseric... after Valentinian died, he made incursions into Sicily and Italy every year at the beginning of spring, and having enslaved some of the cities and razed others to the ground, he plundered everything...
He ravaged them, and after Majorian, wishing Olybrius to rule the Romans in the West because of the relationship by marriage (cf. John of Antioch, fr. 204).
As Gaiseric threatened that he would not otherwise end the war unless the wealth of Valentinian... were given to him... Therefore, for this reason of war, he made an expedition every year at the beginning of spring with a fleet against Sicily and the Italies... and capturing places where a rival force did not happen to be, he devastated and enslaved them.
Procopius, who did not wish to copy the source word-for-word, changed the words of Priscus; in another place, he agrees with Theophanes and Nicephorus Callistus in such a way that it is proven that all used that common source.
