PATRUM Fathers of the Republic collected, you rendered that promotion ratified and consummated: and indeed, you most graciously wished to demonstrate publicly that it was done according to the sentiment of your heart. If only God would add sufficient strength to my body and spirit so that I might satisfy either this expectation of yours, or the hope conceived regarding me! I will truly strive for this diligently: I will spend all my study here, and whatever strength and enthusiasm the Almighty has granted me.
Meanwhile, accept, MAGNIFICENT AND MOST GRAVE MEN, with a serene countenance, this most sacred and devoted sign and pledge of my respect and debt toward you; and continue to embrace your Citizen and Client with your accustomed favor, as you have done until now.
