The text refers to the previous page's mention of a civic promotion or appointment. and you heard it was recently entrusted to me: you testified to me with singular affection and congratulation that this had happened not only according to your wishes; but also, with the votes of the REIPUBL. PATRUM Fathers of the Republic collected, you rendered that promotion ratified and consummated: and indeed, you most graciously wished to demonstrate publicly that it was done according to the sentiment of your heart. If only God would add sufficient strength to my body and spirit so that I might satisfy either this expectation of yours, or the hope conceived regarding me! I will truly strive for this diligently: I will spend all my study here, and whatever strength and enthusiasm the Almighty has granted me.

Meanwhile, accept, MAGNIFICENT AND MOST GRAVE MEN, with a serene countenance, this most sacred and devoted sign and pledge of my respect and debt toward you; and continue to embrace your Citizen and Client with your accustomed favor, as you have done until now. May GOD increase your courage in these dangerous times, may He guide your counsels, direct your actions, prosper both, and strengthen your bodies: may He superadd to these, from the unexhausted treasures of His Graces, whatever may conduce to His Glory, the Safety of the Fatherland, the Benefit of the Academy, and your perpetual Happiness; until at last, in your late age, the height of celestial Glory shall have been reached!
