After fol. 25, a leaf has been cut out, which contained p. 250.13 "of those of John" to 258.17 "slaughters of priests," and replaced by two leaves [26 and 27] by a different hand; on the margin of fol. 25^v, the scribe of these leaves notes: "Leaves 2 were missing; therefore, one of the studious Christians transcribed them for the sake of the text of the book and philology." The supplement must have been made from a manuscript originating from A. Conversely, the manuscript itself is copied from B; the proof can be easily demonstrated from spot checks:

Codex Marcianus 339 plays a role in the hodgepodge of readings and conjectures that have circulated as Codex Gruteri g in Burton and Codex Castellani N in Burton ever since Stroth swept this refuse into separate heaps. These were never manuscripts in the strict sense, but rather marginal notes to the Stephanus edition, which partly contained manuscript variants. The Codex Gruteri stems from marginal readings in the Geneva reprint of the 1612 Stephanus edition; the Codex Castellani from a...
