The printer had carried the edition of Tzetzes's Allegories of the Iliad, which I had undertaken, up to book $Ω$ Omega when the most learned and kind Em. Miller shared with me the Anecdota Graeca Greek Anecdotes of Matranga, recently published in Rome. Among other short works, these contain the Allegories of Tzetzes, not only of the Iliad but also of the Odyssey; the latter part is missing from the Parisian codices manuscripts that I have used.
I did not even dream of increasing my volume with the Roman materials, and thus easily presenting a new edition of Tzetzes to learned readers. This unjust occupation of another's industry, and the unforeseen plunder of a work not one's own, differs immensely from my character, as I live only if I live within literature, and I both use it diligently and treat it with humanity.
