An elaborate heraldic bookplate. At the center is a quarterly coat of arms supported by two unicorns rearing up on their hind legs. Above the shield is an earl's coronet and two helmets with crests: a griffin and a stag's head. The entire scene is framed by dense, scrolling acanthus leaf mantling. A ribbon at the bottom of the shield contains the motto "I trust in God" original French: "JE ME FIE EN DIEU". Below the engraving, the owner's name and title are inscribed in formal typography.
original French: "JE ME FIE EN DIEU"
