...relation to one God. Therefore, the speech of the angels is such that, through a certain consistent harmony flowing from the harmony of heaven, it ends in unity. This indicates that it is impossible for them to think of more than one God, because their speech proceeds from their thought.
27. What person of sound reason does not perceive that the Divine cannot be divided? Also, that it is impossible for there to be a plurality of Infinites original: "Infinites," referring to beings that are boundless and eternal., Uncreated beings, Omnipotents, and Gods? If someone without reason should say that several Infinites, Uncreated beings, Omnipotents, and Gods are possible, provided they share the same essence original: "essence," meaning the fundamental nature or substance of a thing., and that this makes them one infinite, uncreated, and almighty God—is not one and the same essence the same identity? And a single identity cannot be shared among many. If it were said that one comes from the other, then the one who comes from the other is not God in Himself; yet God in Himself is the God from whom all things exist. See above, number 16.
If you gather all the things you know and examine them with your mind, and ask yourself in a moment of spiritual reflection what the universal principle of them all is, you cannot conclude anything else than that it is love and wisdom. It is for this reason, and no other, that they can be held together and preserved forever.
30. Because the Divine Essence itself is love and wisdom, a human being has two faculties original: "faculties," meaning inherent mental powers or capacities. of life: one from which they have understanding, and the other from which they have will. The faculty of understanding derives everything it has from the influx original: "influx," the spiritual flow or influence from God into the human mind. of wisdom from God; and the faculty of will derives everything it has from the influx of love from God. The fact that a person may not be truly wise or may not exercise their love rightly does not take away these faculties, but only closes them up within. And so long...
