Conjugial: A term derived from the Latin "conjugialis," used by Swedenborg to describe a spiritual and eternal marriage union, as distinguished from "conjugal," which often refers to more worldly or physical marriage.
1. “I am aware that many who read the following pages and the Memorable Relations Memorable Relations: Narrative accounts of Swedenborg’s experiences and conversations in the spiritual world, which he placed at the end of chapters to illustrate his theological points. added to the chapters, will believe that they are fictions of the imagination; but I solemnly declare they are not fictions, but actually happened and were seen. I saw them not while my mind was asleep, but in a state of complete wakefulness. For it has pleased the Lord to reveal himself to me, and to send me to teach the things relating to the New Church, which is meant by the New Jerusalem in the Book of Revelation. For this purpose, He has opened the inner parts of my mind and spirit; by virtue of this privilege, I have been allowed to be in the spiritual world with angels and at the same time in the natural world with men, and this has now [1768] continued for twenty-five years.”
2. At one time, an angel appeared to me flying beneath the eastern heaven, with a trumpet in his hand. He held it to his mouth and sounded it toward the north, the west, and the south. He was clothed in a robe that waved behind him as he flew along, and was wrapped around the waist with a belt that shone like fire and sparkled with carbuncles original: "carbuncles"; a term used in the 18th century for deep red gemstones, usually garnets. and sapphires. He flew with his face downward and landed gently on the ground near where I was standing. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he stood upright and walked back and forth; and upon seeing me, he walked toward me. I was in a spiritual state, standing on a small hill in the southern quarter of the spiritual world. When he came near, I spoke to him and asked what his mission was, telling him that I had heard the sound of his trumpet and had watched his descent through the air. He replied, “My mission is to
