Nur al-Din Ali and the Young Woman Anis al-Jalis.

"Forgive me! I sinned against you, but the wise
Never deny grace to the sinner;
Your enemy may beg for pardon when he lies
In the lowest place, and you hold the highest!"

At that, the Vizier Wazir; a high-ranking political advisor or minister rose from his son’s chest, saying, “I forgive you!”; for his heart yearned for him. The youth kissed his father's hand, and his father said, “O my son, if I were sure that you would treat Anis al-Jalis fairly, I would give her to you.” “O my father, how am I to treat her fairly?” “I command you, my son, not to take another wife or concubine to share your life with her, nor are you to sell her.” “O my father! I swear to you that I will truly not do her any injustice in either way.” Having sworn to that effect, Nur al-Din went to the young woman and lived with her for a whole year. Meanwhile, Almighty God original: "Allah" caused the King to forget the matter of the girl. Even though news of the affair reached Al-Mu’in, he did not dare reveal it because his rival stood in such high favor with the Sultan. His illness worsened and he suffered long from restlessness, and weakness bound him like a chain. So he called out, “Bring my son here!” When Nur al-Din Ali arrived, his father said to him, “O my son, know that a man’s fate and resources are distributed and decreed; and everyone must endure dree’d; to endure or suffer the end of their days; and it is a law of nature that every soul must drain the cup of death.” Then he repeated these lines:

"I die my death, but He alone is great who does not die!
And well I know, soon I shall die, for death was made my lot;
There is no King who dies and holds his kingdom in his hand,
For Sovereignty belongs to the Kingdom of Him who does not die."

Then he continued, “O my son, I have no final instruction to leave you except that you fear God original: "Allah", consider the consequences of your actions, and remember my commands regarding Anis al-Jalis.” “O my father!” said Nur al-Din, “Who is like you? Indeed, you are famous for your good deeds, and preachers offer prayers for you from their pulpits!” Al-Fazl said, “O my son, I hope that Almighty God original: "Allah" may grant—”
