Historians find a continuous chain of references to the mysterious influence one human mind exerts over others. In the earliest records, traditions, and legends, one can find references to the general belief that it was possible for an individual to exert a weird, uncanny power over the minds of other people, influencing them for good or evil. Furthermore, the student will find a parallel belief that certain individuals possess a mental power that can bend even "things" and circumstances to its will.
Far back in the dim past of human history on this planet, this belief existed. It has steadily persisted until the present day, despite the strenuous opposition of material science A branch of science that focuses exclusively on physical matter and observable phenomena, often dismissing spiritual or purely mental explanations.. The passing years have not weakened this belief. In these early days of the twentieth century, it has taken on new strength and vitality. Its supporters have boldly stepped forward to confront skeptical, materialistic thinkers. They have claimed the name of "science" for this truth and have insisted that it be removed, once and for all, from the categories of superstition, gullibility, and ignorant original: "phantasy" fantasy.
