...the psychic awareness generally called "feeling," though this term is not a very precise one. Most people are more or less aware of a subtle quality in the personality of others. This can be sensed or felt in a clear, though unusual, way when other persons are nearby, even if they are out of the range of one's vision. Because this is outside the normal range of the five senses, we tend to feel there is something strange or uncanny: mysterious or seemingly supernatural about these feelings of a projected personality. But every person, deep in their heart, knows these feelings are real. They admit that these sensations affect their impressions of the people from whom they emanate: flow out or originate. Even small children—and even infants—perceive this influence and respond to it through their likes and dislikes.
