An elaborate allegorical woodcut shows the path to knowledge through mathematics. At the base of the image, Euclid stands at the gate of a circular walled garden. He holds a large key and a tablet. Inside the first enclosure, the author Niccolò Tartaglia stands surrounded by figures representing the mathematical arts: Music, Arithmetic, Geometry, Astronomy, and Perspective. On the left side of the courtyard, a cannon fires. A line traces the projectile's trajectory. This represents the new science of ballistics. In the background, steps lead to a second, higher enclosure. Aristotle and Plato stand before a seated figure of Philosophy. A banner above the inner gate bears a Latin inscription. At the top of the frame, two coats of arms flank a central column with more inscriptions.

To the testing breeze of [Urigni] original: "VRIGNI"; possibly a reference to a patron or a corrupted spelling of a dedication and the talent of Mathematics.
