Stevin’s "Uytspraeck van de Weerdicheyt der Duytsche tael" is a famous defense of using the Dutch vernacular for scientific and mathematical writing. He argued that Dutch was superior to Latin or Greek because of its many monosyllabic words, which allowed for greater clarity and brevity in logic.
original: "De Weeghdaet." Stevin typically divided his scientific works into two parts: the "const" (the theoretical art or science) and the "daet" (the practical application or deed).
