A detailed copperplate engraving featuring a central portrait of Agostino Ramelli within an elaborate architectural frame. Ramelli is depicted as a bearded man in a patterned doublet and lace collar. He holds a pair of dividers in his right hand, measuring a plan of a fortification laid out on a table before him. His left hand rests on a closed helmet.
The architectural frame is topped by a broken pediment upon which sits Minerva, holding a spear and a shield with a Medusa motif. She is flanked by two winged figures (Victories or Fames) holding laurel wreaths. Beneath Minerva's feet are several geometric solids, including a dodecahedron and an icosahedron.
The sides of the frame feature two niches containing classical figures: on the left, a female figure in robes holding a spear; on the right, a male figure in Roman military attire. The bottom of the frame is decorated with a lion's head mask in the center and a ram's head below it, surrounded by ornamental swags and scrolls. A small "G" monogram is visible at the very bottom center.
