...[admira]ble valor, and most prudent judgment, which along with infinite other virtues reigns in his royal and heroic courage, had (as the only one in the world worthy) over so many other Kings and Prince competitors for that crown, with unspeakable applause and triumphant joy of his PalatinesHigh-ranking officials or nobles belonging to the royal court; in this context, it likely refers to the Polish nobles who elected Henry III as their king before his return to France., and of all his peoples, elected and almost by force led him to be crowned their King. All of these favors from your generous spirit, which will eternally be—and more than ever are—imprinted in my memory; just as they have inviolably bound me to your Most Christian Majesty with lively love and perpetual faith, they have also filled me with a deep desire to demonstrate to you in part through my work, as best as I am able, the intimate gratitude of my soul. So much so that, being almost unmindful of the great debt I owe you, I have taken the boldness to present to you, such as they are, these small labors of mine, from which you may draw great enlightenment and service for all your needs.
I am well assured that your Majesty, through that same conformity you hold with the supreme Monarch of heaven, will be satisfied (as I most humbly beseech you) with my most devoted and sincere will: and that with the customary kindness of your royal spirit, you will find them as pleasing and acceptable as I most willingly consecrate and give them to you. In the meantime, with most ardent affection, I wish you a happy and long life through the Lord God, whom I also pray will make your Most Christian Majesty no less redoubtable and terrifying to your enemies than always gracious and kind to all your friends and faithful servants.
With which end, as much as I am able, I most reverently and humbly bow before your Royal Highness.
