Words of Command following which the Captains shall have their Soldiers exercise, once they have attained the knowledge of handling the Pike. Also, as in the first command it was said, "carry the Pike high," this speaks to the first figure being in steady battle formationoriginal: "bataille ferme" — a stationary, solid tactical arrangement of infantry. with the Pike planted; and to avoid all confusion, care must be taken that each way of carrying or presenting the Pike must be entirely finished, and the Pike planted once again, or lowered, before embracing another; and to this end one shall use this General command.
