A dark brown calfskin leather book cover features gilt-stamped decorations. A triple-line gilt border runs along the edges. In the center, a large, prominent oval medallion contains an intricate, symmetrical quatrefoil (four-leaf) motif composed of floral arabesques and scrollwork. The title "DER GOVW" (The Province) and the date "1586" are stamped in gold above and below the central ornament, respectively, with each flanked by decorative stars.
