Elements
An ornate oval emblem contains Simon Stevin's famous 'clootcrans' (wreath of spheres) diagram, which illustrates the principles of the inclined plane. The beads are strung on a triangle to demonstrate equilibrium. Inscribed in the upper curve of the oval is the motto: 'WONDER EN IS GHEEN WONDER' (A wonder is no wonder). The emblem is surrounded by elaborate Mannerist scrollwork, including two putti at the top supporting a crest and various scientific instruments, such as a globe and a square, at the bottom.
An oval library stamp of the 'KONINKL. BIBLIOTHEEK' (Royal Library of the Netherlands) is present.
From the library of the illustrious man Isaac Vossius. 82
