Cuyk, St. Vith, Doesburg, etc. Governor of Gelderland, Holland, Zeeland,
West Friesland, Zutphen, Utrecht, Overijssel, etc. Supreme Commander of the
United Netherlands, Admiral General of the Sea, etc.
A large rectangular woodcut printer's device. At its center is an oval frame containing a winged figure representing Fame or Knowledge, holding a trumpet. Around this central figure is the Latin motto: "Letters bring forth immortality" original: "LITERAE IMMORTALITATEM PARIVNT", suggesting that written knowledge grants eternal life to ideas. The surrounding decorative border is densely packed with figures playing various musical instruments—including lutes, violas, and wind instruments—and figures engaged in study.
