A large woodcut printer's device belonging to Vincenzo Valgrisi. The central oval scene depicts the biblical story of Moses and the Israelites in the desert with the Brazen Serpent raised upon a Tau-shaped cross. Encircling the oval is the motto in Latin: "As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up" original: "SICVT MOSES EXALTAVIT SERPENTEM IN DESERTO ITA EXALTARI OPORTET FILIVM HOMINIS," a reference to John 3:14. The device is framed by an ornate Renaissance border featuring architectural elements and scrolls.
