Please note that there are two consecutive images for each palimpsest a manuscript page where the original text was scraped off so the parchment could be reused for new writing page, one in natural light and one in UV light ultraviolet light, which helps reveal the faint traces of erased ink.
To facilitate the identification of continuities in the underlying writing original Latin: scriptio inferior; the older, erased layer of text, the pairs of leaves original: folios which form folded sheets original: bifolia; a single piece of parchment folded in half to create two leaves are identified here. Please note that, for each folded sheet, continuity always obtains between the front original Latin: recto of one leaf and the back original Latin: verso of the other. The numbering of the quires original Italian: fascicoli; the "gatherings" or booklets that make up a manuscript is purely sequential and takes no account of any preserved quire signatures marks made by the original scribe to keep the booklets in the correct order.
Where it is possible to establish that the palimpsest sheets derive from multiple original manuscripts, these are distinguished with different colors.
It is noted that each palimpsest page is depicted in two consecutive images, the first in natural light and the second in UV light.
To facilitate the recognition of continuity in the underlying writing original Latin: scriptio inferior, the pairs of leaves that form folded sheets are indicated here. Note that, for each folded sheet, the surface continuity always occurs between the front of one leaf and the back of the other. The numbering of the quires is purely sequential and disregards the possible presence of quire signatures.
When it is possible to establish that the palimpsest folded sheets come from several original manuscripts, these are differentiated with different colors.
