On Dreams (De Insomniis)

...do not sing along; nor follow; for if one
to be saved; but they scrape away heresy original: "hairesin" — literally a "choice" or a sect; here referring to beliefs that diverge from established church doctrine; and in this way
only to be built up original: "oikodomêthênai" — a common metaphor for spiritual or communal edification and not; so [it is] fitting
for you, not in a divine manner as is commanded; but not with
concerning God; but not one concerning [what is] fitting
but not concerning Christ; but not one concerning the resurrection original: "anastaseôs" — the core Christian belief in the rising of the dead;
and many other things fittingly appropriate;
for indeed he handed down the interpretation; then indeed it is
fittingly appropriate; but if it is not composed by him
...not seeming to be a part of the whole, and so the whole building is built up with the body; but you yourself change
the building; so when you have been instructed original: "katêkhêthês" — the process of being taught the faith before baptism; the origin of the word "catechism", then you learn;
if then, while being instructed, one asks what the teachers have said: say nothing?, for we are handing down the mystery original: "mustêrion" — a sacred rite or secret knowledge revealed only to those properly prepared to you
and the hope of the age to come;
you pay back the entry of the mystery as your reward; never?
say? this; learn what happens to sin, and those who come after you
will all seek hatred; but they give the infinite things;
it brings something toward working?; and because of brevity, do not
not a pretext, it is lost; and those from? because of the many things;
so the person being instructed, if hearing from him;
not being a catechumen, receiving the seal? original: "sphragizomenos" — likely a reference to baptism or the sign of the cross as a "seal" of faith after the
hearing; the matter is not diminished; and it remains fixed
in its course; and the pattern is like that of the participation original: "metalêpsis" — often referring specifically to the receiving of the Eucharist or Holy Communion;
already then, you... may it become a mystery; neither you...
