...and everyone who hopes in You is able to be saved in this way;
and he spoke also of His great loving-kindness philanthrōpia: God’s inherent love for humanity, which often leads Him to show mercy rather than strict justice. Adam disobeyed the commandment of God; [yet] He did not immediately bring death upon him—[that is, final] death; but in loving-kindness He intended [to cast] him out of paradise. He says "to live" instead of "to dwell"; not closing the gate so that he might be saved. For indeed, that leader of murders original: "archēgos tōn phonōn," a reference to the Devil, described in John 8:44 as a murderer from the beginning. cast out the first man—being the first to be envious, and having condemned [him] to sin.
[He condemned] all those after him, so that [even] the daring ones [sinned]. For a great sin, the condemnation was small; for it was a grieving loving-kindness. The coming deluge kataklysmos: the Great Flood of Noah’s time brought total destruction because of the [deeds] related to blood, like the flood [itself]. How [great is it] on the earth, Your great loving-kindness, O God! Because He brought only [physical] death upon them.
Just as He made them; He could not have acted immediately, but He gave the form and watched over [it]; and He gave by granting repentance metanoia: literally a "change of mind," referring to a transformative spiritual turning away from sin. How great is Your goodness chrēstotēs: divine kindness or moral excellence! That those people of that time bore death, and [yet] we recognized the loving-kindness—even toward the daring ones, toward the acts of incest, [granting] repentance so that they might be saved. And one woman... just as You did; likewise repentance. They have become useless.
Leave history aside, leave it! [Better] for the woman and the strength and the courage and the wisdom to perish. For true strength is also to speak with boldness parrhēsia: a state of fearless confidence or "free speech" before God and the world in public; [so that] all might be saved...
