[It] is given by some property [on] the days of its strength, radish [juice] and [the] sides [of the plant] with warm laurel oil [are] to be poured into the ears through the top. [It is] capable, and the whiteness of balsam which [you hold] in your hand for hearing is in grateful qualities for this [purpose]. The juice of radish with a woman's milk is good [if] scarification is done, but simple [application] with tepid oil heals [those] from these which are as much [a matter of] windiness [leading] to hunger, just as a fistula in the ear is aided by windiness. [You] must cover the whole ear and [the] pouring [of the medicine] is to be done if the material [within] is heavy, which must be purged [from] the body, [and] for the sake of the body, [the ear] hears with honey more often. [You] will want to listen to the fats [and] the urine of a male child who is a virgin, [in] green hemp [or] the fungus of a female; the same [thing] will be done. [Take] 20 [parts] of the exhalations of the ear, the fat of a hen which is warmed by the sun [with] tepid honey; it profits against the pain and the stench of the ears. Pour rose oil into the ear [when] solved by a sick [person]; [if] it is missing, [the ear] is cleansed through fat and the decocted fat of an eel. [A remedy] is made [for] the foul [matter] of the ears, [using] liquid rose [oil], pure honey, [such as] this makes, and it is instilled; it is valuable because, as often as smoke is mixed in honey and instilled, it is valuable because it [helps] the hearing of the ear [and] the pain [of the ear]. Warm wine, by gargling, purges [the head] and kills worms. Through the eggs of ants infused [with] the horn of a [goat], [the mixture] is placed [in] the ears and instilled, and [if] it is faithful [in] use, if [the patient] is healed, [use] honey [and] oil, and it will [be] pleasant [and] heal through a pipe, and instill [it into] the ears, and its leaders [the channels] in [the] juice of the leaves of the tree, [such] as the red [variety].
The nostrils are the instrument of smell, and it is said that the spirit of it is an angel, and a way [for] sneezings which come [out] in many ways [from the] world. That which is thinned [in the] nose [by] the scent is, in the brain, full of the natural spirit, which [through] the sense of smell [goes to] the subtle veins, [which are] tightened from the [passage] to the brain. The afflictions of the nostrils are diverse: a stupor of blood, and the sweating of humor, and [colds], and the power [of the nose]. This must be cleansed [by] the median medicine [and] a powder [made] of ships [i.e., sea-salt or mineral] [is] to be sent in; [take] the testicles of musk, break [them] through the son, [add] wormwood, briefly [made] into a fine [mixture] with strong vinegar, applied, which helps. [If] the nostrils are filled [with] foulness, afterward place a warm leek into the nose; [the patient] puts [it in] the nostrils and the odor [will be] cleaned. [You] must apply the herb saxifrage [to the patient], through which [the congestion] is expelled. Break [the] balsam [and] [use it] with [the] juice, [if] the [remedies] are infused with strong vinegar, let [the patient] abstain, and the [pain] from labor [will cease]. Coryza is an obstruction of the nostrils from the humor [descending] from the brain to the nostrils [in] a devouring way. [If] the cooling of the nostrils [is] the cause, the impediment of the nostrils [is] [caused by] the redness of [the] dust, [which] if [the patient] wishes, is filled. It is recognized through the [frequent] blowing of the nostrils, [the] heaviness [of the] head, and [by] the item of [the] red [tincture]. [These] are for sleeping, [by] the vapor [used] in the [patient] in [the] wine and the flowers [of] pennyroyal; [you] must also place [the] juice of that [plant] on top so that [the nostrils] are cleaned [of the] dirt.
