Commentary on Plato's Timaeus

...of the paradigms. For among these, some? [possess] a resourcefulness resourcefulness: 'eumēchania', the creative ingenuity or "good-contriving" power of the divine or natural order toward others, participating in one another in a familiar way, and being participated in by existing things through one another at each moment. Those things that come from the Whole through many [means] are "resourceful works" original: 'eumēchanēmata', and from the uniform original: 'monoeidous'; that which is simple and of one form through similarity. For by analogy, just as the Monad Monad: the primary unit or the 'One' from which all plurality emerges relates to other monads, so too the living being of the earth and the river-being relate to the earth through their powers; and [there is] a harmony original: 'harmonian' toward us, and this in turn is directed toward the Forms the archetypal ideas, through which living beings are related to the cosmos, and the parts of each [being] through all things.

For if all divine things participate in all things and exist in all things together, as blessed beings, how is it not reasonable that "all things are in all things" 'all in all': a central Neoplatonic maxim meaning everything contains the presence of the whole in its own degree? And through divine friendship original: 'theias philias' they are joined together, and for them, nothing is base...

...possessing one life from the gods. Reasonably then, Proclus, as he gazes upon the Sun, communes and takes an oath—and by chance, he invites others to the same [state] alongside him. Indeed, if he teaches these things, the following names are appropriate to the gods. For they exist in and through human affairs; for these, just as in the absolute paths, and because of this, [even] the "sophist" in the Phaedrus a reference to Plato’s dialogue on love and the soul takes pride; and again in the books he brings a single life, concerning those things after the Mind Mind: 'Nous', the level of reality containing the Forms and through this life possessing it through eternity original: 'aiōnos', it is agreed that some, by their own intellection original: 'noēsei', were in communion with one another. And it is no wonder if it is honorable to be [present] to others and to depend upon them.

If indeed even among the theologians meaning the ancient poets like Orpheus or Plato himself there are transmissions of powers, of symmetry, and of participation, filling all other things from the One and by the things subordinate to each; for in this way those possessed by Apollo original: 'Phoibolēptois'; those inspired by the god of prophecy and light create their images. For the life of one another, which through the books of the Fates destinies, they will produce for the whole through spiritual [means]; for some, through golden [means], more [beings] entering the city through various ways, while others...
