(we previously printed it in the "Etchmiadzin" journal, 1968, No. 1, pp. 58–61). This passage is extracted from the "History of Sebeos," but it is half again as large in volume as what we find in the actual manuscript of the "History of Sebeos."
In the final appendix, the passages "From the History of Heraclius" and "From the Histories of Heraclius," preserved in M.M. manuscripts No. 7729 and 993, are published; these are extracted from a work called "History of Heraclius" which has not reached us.
Thus, three chapters of the appendix section (the first, second, and eighth) are intended to substantiate our viewpoint that Sebeos is not the real author of the "History of Sebeos." We have preserved the name of Sebeos on this publication conditionally, taking into account that the work being published, having been printed many times in Armenian and other languages, has entered scientific circulation under the name of this author, and any new change would cause unnecessary confusion. As long as no medieval copy has been found that preserves the name of a specific author, it should be considered appropriate to publish the book under the name of Sebeos, which has already acquired the force of tradition.
