3 Simeon Stylites. The 2nd of September fell on the fourth day of the week not in the year of the Greeks 771, but in the year 770; for this year corresponds to the year of Christ 459, in which the Dominical letter was D. Since, therefore, it is certain from Cosmas, the writer of the Life of Saint Simeon, that the most holy Stylite migrated to the heavens in the year of Christ 459, as we showed on page 252, and the day of the month and week marked by our Author indicate this, it seems that our Author set down the year of the Greeks 771, begun from the Calends of September, for the year 770, which was still in course according to the Syrians, following some author who followed the Antiochene computation.
