and to the chief bishop Vrtanes. And he gave the district and the village of the original throne of the patriarch of the Manavazians to the bishop Aghbianos for the church; [he gave] Manavazkert with all its boundaries and the surrounding district, which is situated in the regions of the river Euphrates. And they gave the original village of the Ordunis, whose name was Ordoru; from whence [came] the bishop of Basen, along with all the boundaries, which is indeed in the land of Basen.
Concerning the sons of Vrtanes, whose names are these: the first is Grigoris, the second is Yusik.
This Vrtanes and Aristakes were the sons of the great high priest Gregory, and Aristakes was a celibate, holy from childhood. Although he was the younger son, he reached the hereditary seat of the bishopric early. Now Vrtanes was married and childless. For a long time he petitioned God that he might not be deprived of the blessing of offspring, but that from his fruit one might stand before Him in the service of the Lord. And in his old age, the Lord heard his prayers. His wife conceived and bore two sons, twins. He named the first in honor of his own father, Grigoris, and the second, Yusik. They were raised before the King of the Armenians, and great care was taken to teach them their letters. Then the eldest son, Grigoris, attained the bishopric of the regions of the Aghuans Caucasian Albanians and the Georgians, on account of his spiritual, virtuous achievements, his good character, and because he bore the knowledge of God within himself. He did not marry; rather, at the age of fifteen, he reached the rank of bishop of the land of the Georgians and the Aghuans, that is, the boundaries of the Mazk't' the Massagetae or Alans. He went and restored the churches there with luminous order, imitating the work of his father, the first Gregory.
Now Yusik was being raised by Tiran, the son of King Khosrov, and the prince Tiran gave his daughter in marriage to Yusik, son of Vrtanes. And
