Discourse Twenty-Seven: Martyrdom.

We have [this] from the children of men. And since it is ours, the fearful ones: therefore, whatever you wish, you do. Do not, however, think that patterns were found by God. Look, however: and the exhibitions [and] the testimonies of his greatness: that how the children do not bear [children] from after the fathers.

And after these: he brought him who is named. And while you read of the law, he answered and said: Do not trade vainly. Look at yourself for your own sake, and those who are thought of, see: because he sinned against our God: for this reason it happened to the likeness of his glory. There is, however, do not think that you are righteous: because you wanted to cross against God.

And especially, however, when it is found: that which is named for the memorials and the remembrances of the helps: that while it shows their paths in the joy of our fathers in one day, joyfully she was enduring, because of the hope which is greater toward the Lord. And from one to one of them, she was [mother of] the children and speaking in the tongues of the Aramaeans: all of us, however, he begat. While she was filled with the blood of motherhood: and to the spoilers of the salvations of the child in the warmth of the upbringing of the children. And while she was guiding them, she said to them: My children: I do not know how you appeared in my womb. And life and spirit it was not I who gave to you: and the likeness and life of one by one of you it was not I who fashioned. But the Creator of the world: he who formed the children of the children of men: and he builds all their upbringing. He again gives to you spirit and life in his mercies: because you delivered your bodies to the rulers: for the sake of his good laws.
