From the manuscripts preserved in Europe, I have fully collated those indicated under nos. 1, 6, 8, 16 (FTℒS); furthermore, I have collated those indicated under nos. 17, 18, 19, and 20 (BS𝒜ΣG) completely for Book IV, but for the other parts of the work only at selected locations, notably at the many places where the different recensions present characteristic readings. In his edition, Martin provides the text of the manuscript which bears the no. 21 in our list and adds numerous variants from mss. nos. 2 and 9 (DL) and furthermore a certain number of variants from mss. nos. 3 and 14 (VH); on the other hand, despite his Preface, p. 18, he gives no variant from ms. 15 (O). Concerning some extracts of V which have been published, see B. d. Str., p. XXIII. I subsequently had the opportunity to study ms. D quite carefully, without, however, having had the time to make a complete collation of it.
