A detailed copperplate engraving shows the coat of arms belonging to the Electors of Bavaria, which serves as a bookplate. At the top, four winged cherubs hold a large, decorative electoral crown. The central oval shield is divided into four sections: the first and fourth show the blue and white Bavarian diamond pattern; the second and third show the golden Palatinate lion. A small shield in the center depicts the imperial orb, representing the office of Arch-Steward of the Holy Roman Empire. The Order of the Golden Fleece, a prestigious order of knighthood, hangs from the bottom of the shield. The entire design is framed by decorative scrolls and horns of plenty filled with fruit. A large banner at the bottom contains the text.
original Latin: "EX ELECTORALI BIBLIOTHECA SERENISS. VTRIVSQ; BAVARIAE DVCVM." The phrase "both Bavarias" refers to the historical divisions of Upper and Lower Bavaria which were united under the Wittelsbach rulers.
