...where he hints that he is from Oshakan. Without this correction, the meaning of the winged saying is not understood.
There are confusions: Tayk a province instead of Hayk Armenians (p. 267), lutsumn solution instead of lutsumn lighting/kindling (p. 195), pitani useful instead of patani youth (p. 47), patuoy of honor instead of pataroy of scraps (p. 115). Accepting the spoils brought from the war, the king says with dissatisfaction: "The dinner is quite grand, and the sign is in the scraps of bread" (p. 115). Without the correction, the meaning of the statement would not be grasped.
Vardan instead of Vahan (p. 125): The reference is to Vahan Goghtnatsi; meanwhile, there was no Vardan Goghtnatsi in the text. This error forced confused researchers to look for variants.
Yegiptatsik Egyptians instead of Yederatsik Edessans (p. 163).
Metsbats learrn Great-opening mountain instead of Metsrats learrn Great-mountain (p. 279).
Lsaran auditorium instead of lusaran lantern/light-source (p. 177).
Serman sowing instead of Kerman a proper name/place (p. 89).
zharang ordi inheriting son instead of zharangordi heir (p. 67).
Oske phunj golden bouquet instead of oskephul golden-bunch/cluster (p. 107).
End Halpi dashtn Through the Halp plain instead of End Halp i dashtn Through Aleppo, into the plain (p. 274).
Tagavoretsutsanein They caused to reign instead of Tagavoratsn ein They were of the kings (p. 616).
Tepet although instead of Te dep that it happened (p. 44).
Norayr Byuzandatsi corrected the distorted "word" chphakarn in the text of Sebeos, which was passed into Asoghik’s work in the distorted form gchphakarn (p. 96).
There are especially many distortions in the response letter sent by Catholicos Khachik I to the Metropolitan of Sebastia. For example, at the end of the letter, there is a textual corruption that changes the meaning of the entire exposition.
As the conclusion and summary of the "Letter," Catholicos Khachik writes to the Metropolitan:
"Now, will you confess the one and indivisible nature of the one who came and of those who feel in the name of the Lord, and will you be saved from the division of the divider’s sword and the fire that follows after..." (p. 243).
In the text compiled by Malkhasyants, "divider's sword" original: "bazhanoghats sroyn" has been turned into "divider's holy" original: "bazhanoghats srboyn", which is unnatural and fundamentally wrong. In the ABCODE manuscripts and the first printing (p. 235), it is written sroyn sword, which is correct, because the divider is the sword and the fire, not the holy. This is certainly a typo in the text compiled by Malkhasyants; otherwise, the correct reading of T would have been noted in the footnote.
Stepanos Taronetsi Asoghik’s Universal History (in manuscripts: History of Times), with its comprehensive content of historical facts spanning centuries, has always been sought after in Armenian literature and frequently copied. There are currently eleven manuscripts of this work in the Mashtots Matenadaran alone. Manuscripts of Asoghik’s History also exist in Venice, Vienna, and St. Petersburg.
