We had stated that the manuscript used by Father Shmavon has remained intact; we believe it is hardly possible to doubt that the copy brought from India to Jerusalem is that same copy. A small excerpt from that manuscript is printed in Father Zarbhanalian’s Bibliography of Armenian Translations, but unfortunately, we forgot to compare the corresponding passage while printing our book, as the variation in the readings could have provided a specific idea about this manuscript.¹
The second copy of the "Great Socrates" Referring to the unabridged or fuller Armenian version of the History. belongs to the library of the Mother See Mother See The administrative headquarters of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Etchmiadzin.. Karinean described it very briefly:
“Number 1628, Socrates’ Ecclesiastical History, the Great; a large-format manuscript in round-script bolorgir The standard 'round script' that became common in Armenian manuscripts from the 12th century. written on paper in the Monastery of Saint John Hovhannavank in Karbi. It contains: (a) The history of the life of Saint Sylvester, Patriarch of Rome; (b) The history of the Caucasian Albanians Aghuank An ancient kingdom in the eastern Caucasus; the text mentioned is by the historian Movses Kaghankatvatsi. by Movses Kaghankatvatsi. It includes the colophon hishatakaran of its restoration.²”
