Then, he sent messengers on horseback to the examiner of the books in Mesopotamia, and after much demanding investigation, for the providence of God did not let it be stopped. And there they found fifteen Tachiks Arabs who were well-informed about the time and acquaintances of the blessed youth. And they brought all these stories to Umar, with testimony. But Umar, seeing the time, did not wish to use force; rather, he fell into supplication with the youth, with gentle words: "Do not leave us, child. And if you think there is some deficiency in your life, I will make you a part of my visible Kingdom, with glorious authority and treasures." And he, who burned with a divine spirit, was not struck by any carnal desire, looking into the depths; rather, he became wise in his response: "My ancestors, who went into the service of the Persian power, and through the efforts of spear and bow, became much wealthier with treasures than many freemen who were in my land. Now, if everything were to return to me doubled, my captivity which occurred through your valor, and you loved me, and you promise other greatness, yet even this cannot reach the places." Now, just as God made your mercy sweet to me, release me so that I may see the extent of the desolation of my native land. And by your command, having made me an agent, I shall reach you.
