fasting, calling upon God for help. And having spent more or less a year there, he came again to Armenia, to Aragatsotn, as the horsemen helping him stood apart from him, left behind by boredom. There, also, the princes of the district, who were the nearby freemen, having consulted, intended that having been sent through the secure land of the Tayk, they would emerge into the Royal-inhabited city. Which, not considering it sufficient for his own, they made the prince and the Catholicos privy to the plan. As I believe, that demon who was a worker of evil in everything, having arrived quickly with malevolent thought, casting fear upon the commanders and the overseer of the Christians, to the point of saying: "Let him go away, so that there may not be destruction for us and for himself; for perhaps he may be able to lead the blessed man into the apostasy of our Christ..."

When he could no longer find the completion of his affairs, he fell before God, asking; and we have even found his prayers in writing, saying thus:

"Only-begotten Son of God, who were called the shepherd of the lost sheep, and having found it, carried it on your shoulders, and having stretched out your arms, gathered the universe unto yourself, do not leave me, the stranger, without help. Wash my transgressions with your blood and life-giving body, you who are the manna of immortality, who descended from heaven and gifted bread to us. My Jesus, salvation-bringer of the world, who by your own will, and that of the Father and the Holy Spirit, became a sacrifice for us, and the guide on the path of life; Father..."
