that which is?
that he might be one of them. And how
is it possible to know those
who are of the lineage of God
and those who are of the lineage of the evil one?
Just as our Lord taught us: "By
their fruits you shall know them." Just as
we also, by works of righteousness
and of justice, can know
the lineage of God, and by works
of wickedness and of sin, can
know the lineage of the evil one. And just as
the holy apostle said, "Those
who are led by the Spirit of God,
these are the children of God;
and those who are led by the spirit of the evil one,
these are the children of the evil one." And just as
the evangelist John also said, "Everyone who commits
sin is of the accuser original: "ܐܟܠܩܪܨܐ" - devil/calumniator,"
and everyone who practices righteousness
is of God. And thus we also
can know the lineage of God
by works of good, and the lineage
of the evil one by works of evil.
And just as our Lord also said, "It is not
possible for a good tree to produce
bad fruits, nor a bad tree
to produce good fruits."
So also we can know
the lineage of God by the fruits
of good, and the lineage of the evil one
by the fruits of evil.
And just as the apostle also said,
"The fruits of the Spirit are:
love, and joy, and peace,
and patience, and kindness,
and goodness, and faith, and humility,
and endurance. And against these
there is no law." And those who are
of God have crucified their flesh
with all its passions
and desires. And if we live
by the Spirit, let us walk by the Spirit.
And let us not be lovers of empty
glory, who provoke one another
and envy one another. And just as
John also said, "Everyone who is
of God does not commit sin,
because the seed of God is in him,
and he cannot sin,
because he is of God." And by this
the children of God are distinguished
from the children of the accuser: that everyone
who does not practice righteousness
is not of God, and neither is he who
does not love his brother. And this is
the commandment that you heard from
the beginning: that you should love one another.
And not like Cain, who was
of the evil one and killed his brother.
And for what reason did he kill him?
But because his works were evil
and his brother's were righteous.
