The text on the leather binding is heavily worn and nearly illegible. Some characters are visible only under specific lighting or through indentation in the leather.
A woodcut depicts the front cover of a historical manuscript. It is bound in red morocco leather with gold-tooled double-line borders. The spine has raised bands. There are faint traces of gold-stamped lettering in the center of the cover, though much of the gilding has worn away. A small dark ink stain is visible near the top center. In the upper right, there is a faint circular institutional stamp.
