...and in perpetuity, they are found upon the earth, as it is written: "The righteous shall not fail before the eyes of the Lord, and the world shall not be destitute of the upright¹." And the Savior Himself testifies to this: "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance²." For Christ came, desiring sinners to be justified; because "the healthy did not need a physician³," since they labored with no sickness; nor did those who were satisfied hunger for Him, or desire to drink and be refreshed; for He Himself cried out: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come to me and drink⁴." And the prophet cried out: "O you who thirst! Come to the waters, and take for yourselves milk and wine without silver and without price⁵," wine that gladdens and milk that nourishes, concerning which the Apostle says: "As to little ones in Christ, I gave you milk to drink⁶."
9. This great sacramentum mystery the prophet announced beforehand. For he said: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come to the waters." And He who fulfilled the prophets says: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come and drink." The prophet directed them to the fountain; He, however, who provides the drink, called them to drink. The prophet cries: "Approach, and drink wine and milk without price," from Him whose eyes are redder "than wine, and teeth whiter than milk"...
...there are those who are to be found on the earth always. That [the righteous] shall not fail before the eyes of the Lord, and the world shall not be inhabited without the upright. Concerning this our Savior testifies: "I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance." For Christ desired to justify sinners, [not those who were waiting]; because [for] those who are healthy, a physician is not required, because in sickness they are not, and also not those who were satisfied with their satiety. And also they do not hate hunger, and also they were not seeking either to drink or to be refreshed. He, indeed, was crying out: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come and drink." And the prophet was crying out: "O you thirsty ones! Go to the waters, and take for yourselves without silver and without price, milk and wine; wine that gladdens and milk that nourishes." And concerning it, the Apostle says: "As to children in Christ, I gave you milk to drink."
This great mystery the prophet announced beforehand. He says, indeed: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come to the waters." And the fulfiller of the prophets says: "Everyone who thirsts, let him come and drink." The prophet commanded the fountain; and He who provides the drink called to the drinking. And the prophet announced: "Approach and drink without price wine and milk, from Him whose eyes are red from wine and His teeth from milk"; and the prophet did not say, "who thirsts, let him drink."
