By a new miracle, a new
returns to life
T H E P H O E N I X. The Phoenix is a mythical bird that burns to ashes and is reborn, symbolizing the restoration of the state after the devastation of the Thirty Years' War.
From these most unhappy times,
This is the one source of happiness,
That they are submerged in the Beautiful Fountain,
original: "Fonte Pulchro." This is a Latin pun on the name of the patron, von Schönborn (Schön = Beautiful, Born = Fountain/Spring).
In which, unless they are completely submerged,
They will never emerge
More fortunate.
And this will be the highest glory
OF THE BEAUTIFUL FOUNTAIN,
To have arrived in these times,
In which, if it had not arrived,
The times would be altogether
Ruined.
What more shall I say of the Beautiful Fountain?
Other fountains are either dried up by favorable heat,
Or frozen by unlucky cold,
So that they stop their flow:
THE BEAUTIFUL FOUNTAIN.
IT SHALL FLOW UNTIL IT FLOWS
INTO THE FOUNTAIN
WITH WHICH IT SHALL LEAP INTO ETERNAL LIFE. This is a paraphrase of the Gospel of John 4:14, where Jesus speaks of the "well of water springing up into everlasting life."
All the good Muses, who are
WASHED, WATERED, AND NOURISHED
BY THE BEAUTIFUL FOUNTAIN,
vow and pray for this along with me.
